That means conditions ranging from perfect football weather in Seattle to genuinely dangerous heat in Dallas and Monterrey. Knowing what to expect before you arrive could be the difference between a great trip and a miserable one.
Here is the complete weather breakdown for all 16 host cities.

⚠️ Heat Warning Cities
Dallas, Houston, and Monterrey require serious preparation. These are not just "warm" — they are genuinely dangerous for anyone not acclimatised to extreme heat. Standing in a queue outside a stadium in Dallas at 37°C with no shade for 45 minutes is a health risk.
What to do:
- Arrive at the stadium early (before the sun peaks at 14:00-16:00)
- Carry a large water bottle — fill it inside
- Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing
- Use sunscreen SPF 50+ on all exposed skin
- Do not drink alcohol in the sun before the match
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, nausea, confusion
Travel insurance is essential for hot-weather venues. Heat exhaustion and emergency medical treatment in the USA costs thousands without coverage. Compare travel insurance plans →
USA Host Cities
Dallas — AT&T Stadium
Average: 35-38°C (95-100°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Low
The hottest World Cup venue in the USA. Dallas in June and July is brutally hot with intense direct sun. The good news: humidity is lower than Houston or Miami, so it feels slightly less oppressive. The bad news: temperatures regularly exceed 38°C. AT&T Stadium is fully air-conditioned indoors, but queues outside will be punishing.
Pack: Lightest possible clothing, wide-brim hat, SPF 50+, electrolyte tablets, large empty water bottle.

Houston — NRG Stadium
Average: 33-36°C (91-97°F) · Humidity: Very High · Rain: Moderate
Houston combines extreme heat with extreme humidity — the "feels like" temperature regularly exceeds 43°C (110°F). NRG Stadium is air-conditioned, but the walk from parking or transit will drain you fast. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible but typically brief.
Pack: Moisture-wicking clothing only (cotton is miserable here), portable fan, electrolyte drinks, sunscreen, rain poncho for brief storms.

Miami — Hard Rock Stadium
Average: 31-33°C (88-91°F) · Humidity: Very High · Rain: High
Miami's heat is made much worse by near-tropical humidity. June and July are the wettest months — expect a 30-60 minute afternoon downpour almost every day, usually between 14:00-17:00. Hard Rock Stadium is open-air, so evening matches will be hot and humid. The upside: it cools to around 27°C after dark.
Pack: Rain poncho (essential), moisture-wicking clothing, sunscreen, insect repellent for outdoor areas.

Atlanta — Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Average: 30-33°C (86-91°F) · Humidity: High · Rain: Moderate
Atlanta is hot and humid in summer, with occasional afternoon thunderstorms. Mercedes-Benz Stadium has a retractable roof which may be used on extreme heat days. The MARTA rail connection means you can avoid standing in parking lot heat.
Pack: Light clothing, sunscreen, small umbrella or poncho.

New York / New Jersey — MetLife Stadium
Average: 27-30°C (81-86°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Moderate
New York in June-July is warm and occasionally humid, but generally manageable. MetLife Stadium is open-air. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible. Evening matches will be comfortable. The Final (July 19) tends to be the hottest period.
Pack: Light layers (evenings can be breezy), sunscreen, small umbrella.

Philadelphia — Lincoln Financial Field
Average: 28-31°C (82-88°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Moderate
Similar to New York — warm, occasionally humid, with possible afternoon storms. Lincoln Financial Field is open-air. Generally comfortable for evening kickoffs.
Pack: Light clothing, sunscreen, small umbrella.

Boston — Gillette Stadium
Average: 25-28°C (77-82°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Low
Boston is one of the more comfortable US venues in June-July. Gillette Stadium is in Foxborough, 30 miles south — slightly hotter and less breezy than coastal Boston. Generally pleasant for football.
Pack: Light clothing, sunscreen, a light layer for evening matches.

Kansas City — Arrowhead Stadium
Average: 29-33°C (84-91°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Moderate
Kansas City can get hot in summer, with occasional severe thunderstorms (the Midwest is prone to fast-moving storms). Arrowhead is open-air. Check the forecast before match day — storms can develop quickly.
Pack: Light clothing, sunscreen, rain poncho, weather app on your phone.

Seattle — Lumen Field
Average: 20-24°C (68-75°F) · Humidity: Low · Rain: Low
Seattle is the best weather of all 16 venues. June and July are the driest months of the year in Seattle — counterintuitively, it barely rains. Temperatures are mild and pleasant. Lumen Field is open-air but the climate makes it ideal for football.
Pack: Light clothing, a light jacket for evening matches (can cool to 15°C after dark), minimal sunscreen needed.

Los Angeles — SoFi Stadium
Average: 24-28°C (75-82°F) · Humidity: Low · Rain: Very Low
Classic Southern California summer: warm, sunny, almost zero rain. SoFi Stadium has a translucent roof that provides shade while keeping the venue open. One of the most comfortable venues in the tournament.
Pack: Sunscreen (UV is high even in mild temperatures), light clothing, sunglasses.

San Francisco Bay Area — Levi's Stadium
Average: 16-20°C (61-68°F) · Humidity: Low · Rain: Low
The coolest and most surprising weather of the tournament. San Francisco's famous summer fog means temperatures regularly stay below 20°C even in July. Levi's Stadium is in Santa Clara (warmer than SF itself — expect 22-26°C at the venue), but evening matches can turn cool quickly.
Pack: This is the one city where you need a layer — a light jacket or hoodie for evening matches. Don't be the fan in shorts freezing at 21:00.

Canadian Host Cities
Toronto — BMO Field
Average: 25-28°C (77-81°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Moderate
Toronto in June-July is warm and pleasant with occasional humidity. BMO Field is open-air on the waterfront, which provides a lake breeze that moderates temperatures. Thunderstorms are possible.
Pack: Light clothing, sunscreen, small umbrella.

Vancouver — BC Place
Average: 20-24°C (68-75°F) · Humidity: Low · Rain: Low
Like Seattle, Vancouver's summer is mild and dry. BC Place has a retractable roof, so even if it rains, you're covered. One of the most comfortable venues in the tournament.
Pack: Light clothing, a light jacket, minimal rain gear needed.

Mexican Host Cities
Mexico City — Estadio Azteca
Average: 20-24°C (68-75°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Moderate
Mexico City's altitude (2,240m / 7,350ft) keeps temperatures mild even in summer — a genuine relief compared to the other Mexican venues. However, altitude affects physical endurance and can cause mild headaches in the first day or two. Afternoon rain showers are common in June-July (the rainy season) but usually brief and intense.
Important: If you're arriving from sea level, give yourself 24 hours to acclimatise before the match. Avoid alcohol on day one.
Pack: Light layers (cool evenings at altitude), rain poncho, altitude sickness tablets (available at pharmacies).

Guadalajara — Estadio Akron
Average: 24-28°C (75-82°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Moderate
Guadalajara earns its "City of Eternal Spring" reputation. Temperatures are warm but not extreme, humidity is manageable, and the rainy season brings afternoon showers rather than all-day rain. One of the most pleasant Mexican venues.
Pack: Light clothing, rain poncho for afternoon showers, sunscreen.

Monterrey — Estadio BBVA
Average: 34-38°C (93-100°F) · Humidity: Moderate · Rain: Low
Monterrey rivals Dallas as the hottest venue in the tournament. The city sits in a valley surrounded by mountains, which traps heat and reduces airflow. June temperatures regularly exceed 40°C during the day. Evening kickoffs will be more manageable, but still hot.
Pack: Everything from the Dallas heat warning list. This is not a city to underestimate.

Universal Packing List
Regardless of which cities you're visiting:
Always bring:
- Sunscreen SPF 50+ (reapply every 2 hours in direct sun)
- Reusable water bottle (empty — fill inside the stadium)
- Lightweight, light-coloured clothing
- Comfortable walking shoes (you will walk more than you expect)
- Phone charger / power bank
Add for hot cities (Dallas, Houston, Monterrey, Miami, Atlanta):
- Electrolyte tablets or sachets
- Portable mini fan
- Cooling towel
- Moisture-wicking fabrics only — leave the cotton at home
Add for cool cities (San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver):
- Light jacket or hoodie for evening matches
- Long trousers for evenings
Add for rainy cities (Miami, Houston, Kansas City, Mexico City, Guadalajara):
- Compact rain poncho (not an umbrella — too awkward in crowds)
One Final Note on Heat
FIFA has confirmed that match times have been scheduled to avoid the hottest part of the day at the hottest venues — most Dallas and Houston matches kick off at 18:00 or 21:00 local time. But "evening" in Dallas in June still means 32°C at kickoff. Plan accordingly.
Stay hydrated, know your limits, and enjoy the tournament.
