Vancouver World Cup 2026 Match Day Guide
BC Place in downtown Vancouver hosts 7 matches — including Canada vs Qatar on June 18 (a Canada home fixture with a passionate crowd), Switzerland vs Canada on June 24, a Round of 32, and a Round of 16 on July 7. BC Place sits in the heart of downtown Vancouver with a retractable roof and one of the tournament's best public transit connections: SkyTrain's Stadium-Chinatown station is right at the stadium gates.
The key logistics fact: BC Place is directly served by SkyTrain — the Stadium-Chinatown station is adjacent to the main entrance. Both the Expo Line and Millennium Line stop there. From most of downtown Vancouver, it's under 10 minutes. Drive-in is not recommended; downtown Vancouver parking is expensive and limited.
Vancouver Match Schedule
BC Place hosts 7 FIFA World Cup 2026 matches. All times are Pacific Time (PT).

Canada vs Qatar (Jun 18) is one of the tournament's most anticipated home matches. Canada qualified for their first World Cup since 1986 and the Vancouver crowd will be among the loudest in the tournament for a home fixture. The afternoon kickoff (15:00 PT) means a full afternoon/evening of celebrations in the city. Switzerland vs Canada (Jun 24) completes the Canadian group stage run here. The Round of 16 (Jul 7) is a midday match in peak summer.
Getting to BC Place
BC Place is at 777 Pacific Blvd, Vancouver, BC V6B 4Y8 — in the False Creek neighbourhood immediately south of downtown Vancouver.
Option 1 — SkyTrain (Strongly Recommended)
Stadium-Chinatown Station (Expo Line and Millennium Line) is directly adjacent to BC Place's main entrance on the east side. This is one of the best stadium transit connections in the entire tournament.
From downtown Vancouver (Burrard, Granville, Waterfront stations):
- Expo Line eastbound or Millennium Line to Stadium-Chinatown
- Journey time: 3–8 minutes from any downtown station
- Fare: approximately $3.15–$4.45 depending on zone (Compass Card or single-trip)
- Buy Compass Cards at any station or at translink.ca
From Vancouver International Airport (YVR):
- Canada Line from YVR to Waterfront → transfer to Expo or Millennium Line east to Stadium-Chinatown
- Total journey: approximately 45–55 minutes, one transfer
- Alternatively: Canada Line to City Centre → short walk to BC Place
- Fare: approximately $9–$10.50 from airport (including airport zone surcharge)
From North Vancouver:
- SeaBus from Lonsdale Quay to Waterfront → SkyTrain to Stadium-Chinatown
- Journey time: approximately 30–40 minutes
For Canada vs Qatar (Jun 18) and Canada matches: SkyTrain platforms will be packed. Buy your Compass Card in advance online or at a ticket vending machine to avoid queues at the gate. Arrive at your departure station 60–90 minutes before you want to be at the stadium.
Option 2 — Walk / Cycle
BC Place is walkable from multiple downtown Vancouver locations:
- From Granville Street and Robson: ~15-minute walk
- From Gastown: ~20-minute walk
- The Seawall cycling/pedestrian route passes near the stadium and is one of the better ways to arrive on a summer afternoon
Option 3 — Drive and Park
Downtown Vancouver parking is expensive — expect $20–40+ for a surface lot near the stadium. The Stadium Parkade on Beatty Street and adjacent BCIT lots are closest. Pre-book through impark.com or SpotHero.
Budget 30–45 minutes to exit downtown Vancouver's street grid after a sold-out match. SkyTrain is faster.
Arrival Times by Match
| Match | Arrive by | Notes | |-------|-----------|-------| | Australia vs TBD (Jun 12) | 90 min early | Evening opener, manageable | | Canada vs Qatar (Jun 18) | 2 hours early | Partisan Canadian crowd, high demand | | New Zealand vs Egypt (Jun 21) | 75 min early | Moderate crowd, evening match | | Switzerland vs Canada (Jun 24) | 90 min early | Noon match, Swiss and Canadian fans | | New Zealand vs Belgium (Jun 26) | 90 min early | Evening match | | Round of 32 (Jul 2) | 2 hours early | Knockout intensity | | Round of 16 (Jul 7) | 2 hours early | Noon knockout, sold-out |

Weather at BC Place
Vancouver in June–July is the Pacific Northwest's best season — dry, mild, and excellent for outdoor events.
- Temperature: 18–25°C (64–77°F) — the most comfortable match-day weather of all three host countries in June
- Rain: June is one of Vancouver's drier months. Rain probability is significantly lower than the September–May wet season. Light layer recommended for evening matches.
- The roof: BC Place has a retractable roof — if rain arrives unexpectedly, the roof can be closed. Weather is rarely a concern for fans attending BC Place events in June and July.
- Evening matches: June evenings in Vancouver (New Zealand vs Egypt, Jun 21; New Zealand vs Belgium, Jun 26) are cool and comfortable. Bring a light jacket.
Vancouver has the second-most comfortable match weather of any host city after Seattle.
Bag Policy
BC Place follows FIFA's event bag policy for World Cup matches. Based on previous FIFA events, expect restrictions similar to:
- Clear plastic bag up to approximately 30cm × 30cm
- Small clutch or purse
Check bcplace.com and FIFA.com for the confirmed official policy before your match. For general World Cup bag policy context, see the full bag policy guide.
Inside BC Place
Capacity: 54,500 — the smallest of the major stadium venues in the tournament. Smaller capacity means a more intense, enclosed atmosphere when full.
The roof: The translucent roof creates a naturally lit indoor environment that looks spectacular on television and feels unique in person. Sound reflects off the roof — Canada matches will be exceptionally loud.
Concessions: BC Place concessions feature Canadian standards — poutine, craft beer from BC breweries, fish and chips. Beer is approximately CAD $14–18. Exchange rate note: Canadian prices are lower for US visitors — $1 USD ≈ $1.37 CAD at current rates.
Fan Zone: An official FIFA Fan Festival is expected at Vancouver's waterfront. The False Creek North waterfront and Ontario Place area are natural candidates. Confirm at FIFA.com.
After the Match
Take the SkyTrain back. Stadium-Chinatown station runs continuously post-match. Crowds are manageable — the station handles BC Lions games and concerts regularly.
Post-match areas:
- Gastown: 20-minute walk or 5 minutes by SkyTrain/walk. Vancouver's historic cobblestone district — bars, restaurants, the Steam Clock. Best post-match neighbourhood on foot.
- Yaletown: 15-minute walk east along False Creek. Upscale restaurant and bar strip. Waterfront patios are stunning on a June evening.
- Granville Street Entertainment District: 10 minutes by SkyTrain (Granville station). Dense bar strip, open late, mixed crowd.
- Davie Street (West End): 20-minute walk northwest. Neighbourhood bars and restaurants, less touristy than Granville.
For Canada fans: Post-Canada match celebrations in Vancouver will be significant — the city's sports culture plus Canadian World Cup excitement creates a rare combination. Gastown and Yaletown will both be packed.

Why insurance matters for Vancouver: Canadian hospital care is free for Canadian citizens but not for international visitors — emergency treatment in Canada costs foreign visitors $2,000–$8,000+ without coverage. Most travel insurance policies cover Canada; verify your plan specifically covers Canadian medical costs before you travel. Compare plans →
